New Parents
Robert Clack School of Science strives to bring the very best educational opportunities within reach of every family as we seek to build positive and cohesive relationships with the parents of our students. This page has been created to bring you information on key aspects of school life, providing opportunities for you to receive school letters and forthcoming dates for your diary as well as the facility to contact members of the Robert Clack staff.
Starting at Robert Clack School of Science
For your child, starting at a new school is always full of mixed emotions and expectations. Here at Robert Clack we try to make the transition as easy a journey as possible. From the first day that your child enters the school we endeavour to integrate them successfully into our community.
The Form Tutor
Is the first point of contact each day for your son or daughter. During the first week the form tutor will ensure that your child is equipped and informed on every aspect of life at Robert Clack. They will undertake a tour of the school, meeting staff and learning how the school operates on a day to day basis.
Early Lunch
To help with the 'settling in' process students in year 7 sit down to lunch 15 minutes earlier than the rest of the school. This allows your child to continue the process of making relationships without the sometimes overwhelming feelings of being in such a large school. Parents need to be aware that the school runs a cafeteria style system and that your child will need to have sufficient money to purchase a balanced meal.
Head of Year Learning Community Leader
Leading the form tutors and the integration of all students in year 7 is the Head of Year Learning Community Leader. If there are issues that have arisen either from your son or daughter, or you have concerns that cannot be dealt with by the form tutor, the H.o.Y L.C.L. is your next contact point. The H.o.Y.L.C.L is the learning manager for your child through the school.
Initial Assessments
During the first half term induction period your child's abilities in each subject area will be assessed. These assessments allow Robert Clack to place your child in an academic group according to his / her ability as we believe 'setting' is an efficient and fair method of grouping students.
Getting to and from School
It is important that your child arrives on time to the school each day. If you plan to drop your son / daughter via car please could you refrain from entering the school site. There are several buses that stop outside the school at regular intervals so please be careful of the traffic. The bus stops and local community shops are supervised by staff at the beginning and end of the day to ensure that students safely leave the school environment.
Other Issues
Parents need to be aware that moving from Primary to Secondary education places a greater physical demand upon students so please be aware that your child may be far more tired than usual at the end of the day or school week.

Current Parents
The personal development and well-being of students are outstanding. Underpinning the school is the all-pervading atmosphere of respect between students and adults. Students enjoy school immensely and show this through their exemplary behaviour and respect for each other. Their spiritual, moral, cultural and social development is outstanding. They are very keen to be involved in the school's wide range of activities, including some which reflect the school's science specialist status.
