Pastoral Care - Year 8
Message from the Head of Year: Miss Sturman
Hello, I am Miss Sturman, the year 8 Learning Community Team Leader. I am proud to belong to such a talented group of young people and to share in their successes both inside and outside of the classroom. Every week in assembly I learn something new about the members of my group and I like to ensure that each individual is recognised for his or her efforts.
The teachers at Robert Clack work really hard to ensure that there are numerous extra-curricular activities open to pupils and many attend clubs such as photography club, foreign film club, basketball club, dance club and rugby club to name just a few.
With such varied activities and outstanding teaching and learning I believe that your child can not fail to flourish and develop as a rounded and happy individual.
I greatly look forward to meeting you all throughout the course of the academic year.

Congratulations to Samira Said who has recently had a piece of creative writing included in a Young Writer’s Anthology entitled ‘Mini S.A.G.A.S Tales from Essex.’ The anthology is set to be published in June this year and we are all very excited to see Samira’s work in print. Her story entitled ‘Mum?’ was commended by the judges and I look forward to seeing her continue with her work.

Connor Bentley recently met Prince Phillip when he came to visit ‘Ab Phab’ in Dagenham. Ab Phab is a charity which promotes partnerships between able-bodied and disabled children in Dagenham and Connor has been an active member for several years. Connor designed a logo for a ‘hoodie’ which was presented to the Prince upon his visit. He is said to be delighted with the gift and said that he was looking forward to wearing it whilst out hunting.
Many congratulations to Connor on such a fantastic design and for his continuing work in support of such an inspirational charity.

Care, guidance and support are outstanding. Students are positive about the effective pastoral system that contributes to the 'family-like' community in the school. Students feel safe in school, supported by the high levels of supervision throughout the day. There are outstanding links with local authority and other external agencies so that vulnerable students including looked after children are well cared for. Careers advice and support are excellent and ensure that students are well informed about the options available to them for the next stage of education and working life. Systematic whole-school procedures rigorously check on students' academic progress. Day-to-day guidance to students on how to improve their performance is very effective.
