Pastoral Care - Year 9

Message from the Head of Year: Mr Pickard

As the Learning Community Team Leader for Year 9 on the Green Lane site it’s my responsibility to guide the pupils through their most challenging and significant year of their school career so far. The pupils face many difficult decisions in selecting their GCSE option choices, preparing for mock and real SATs examination as well as dealing with the difficulties of becoming mature, responsible young adults.

Despite these challenges the pupils continue to excel in their subject areas achieving fantastic results, delivering exceptional performances in their extra curricular activities and are generally polite thoughtful pupils. It is a pleasure to work closely with such a hard working and motivated year group.

Care, guidance and support are outstanding. Students are positive about the effective pastoral system that contributes to the 'family-like' community in the school. Students feel safe in school, supported by the high levels of supervision throughout the day. There are outstanding links with local authority and other external agencies so that vulnerable students including looked after children are well cared for. Careers advice and support are excellent and ensure that students are well informed about the options available to them for the next stage of education and working life. Systematic whole-school procedures rigorously check on students' academic progress. Day-to-day guidance to students on how to improve their performance is very effective.
